One mission of the Frank Brown Foundation for Music is “to reach into schools to enrich

lives and encourage creativity through music.” Festival proceeds and generous support

from businesses, sponsors and tax-deductible donations provide funding for

scholarships and underwrite academically based programs.

There are also individual scholarships awarded on an annual basis to college-bound

Baldwin County, AL and Escambia County, FL high school seniors with an interest in

music.

Ongoing scholarship funding is established at the music departments of the University

of South Alabama, Tuskegee University, and Jacksonville State University with

$25,000.00 having been donated to the music department at Belmont University. The

Foundation also contributes to the Larry Butler Memorial Music Fund at the University of

West Florida. Larry Butler was a multi-Grammy award winning producer and songwriter

and a native of Pensacola, FL. The Fund enables students to compete in music

competitions around the world, buys instruments, provides improvements to music

studios and classrooms, and has provided music lessons to underprivileged young

people. Since its inception the foundation has played a role in over $300,000.00 being

raised and donated.

The Foundation sponsors an “In Schools Outreach” program where professional

songwriter instructors teach the art and craft of songwriting in area schools at no cost to

the schools. The program stages an annual Youth Showcase where students perform

their original compositions in front of their peers. The winner is awarded a place as a

paid performer in the next Frank Brown Songwriters Festival. And instruments are

routinely donated to area school music departments.

The Foundation/Festival truly endeavors to have an impact on young people in our

community and beyond.
